HARLEQUINS      30          LONDON   IRISH    23

                Aviva Premiership

Harlequins returned to Aviva premiership action at the Stoop on Saturday, recording another victory which maintained their position at the top of the table.

Tom Homer opened the scoring for the visitors after only 2 minutes. Homer converted his kick to give London Irish a 7-0 lead. Quins were awarded a penalty after 6 minutes which Nick Evans converted. The home side had further changes to peg back the visitors lead when they awarded two further penalties, only for Evans to miss on both occasions.

In the 24th minute Quins took the lead, following good work from Luke Wallace down the wing who offloaded for Tom Casson to score. Nick Evans made no mistake this time as Quins lead for the first time in the match 10-7.

Homer levelled the scores with a penalty with 33 minutes played. Homer was in fine kicking form, as another penalty was awarded and the trusty boot of Homer meant the visitors went into the break with a slender 13-10 lead.

Quins started the second half in perfect style with a try. From the kick off, George Robson charged a London Irish kick down, Tom Williams pounced on the loose ball and went over. Evans converted, and Quins lead 17-13. Danny Care’s drop goal extended Harlequins lead to 20-13.

The visitors responded  immediately with a try from Jonathan Joseph, Casson converted to level the score after 53 minutes. Two minutes later Evans scored a penalty to restore the home sides lead to 3 points.

Tom Williams grubber kick found Chisholm who went past Homer to score, Evans converted and Quins lead 30-20 with 20 minutes to go.

Despite a  late penalty from London Irish’s Jarvis enabling them to claim a losing bonus point, Quins failed to get their fourth try. Late Irish pressure failed to disturb a very solid Quins defence, as they held out to record their twelve Premiership win of the season.

Harlequins are back at the Stoop this coming Saturday 18th February, when the Worcester Warriors are the  visitors. The game will kick off at 5.30 p.m
